Comparison | 2011 Ford Explorer vs 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2011 Ford Explorer vs 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
SUVs

www.autorivals.net

There's a lot riding on these two vehicles. Once upon a time ago, the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee were the perennial SUV sales winners that dominated the market. Fast forward to today and a lot has changed. With the dramatic rise in gas prices over the past few years, people have begun swaying away from gas-gulping SUVs to more efficient crossovers. It seems most people only enjoy the design and size of SUVs and not their typical towing and off-roading characteristics.

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2010 Nissan Murano
SUVs

www.autorivals.net

Decades ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee (along with the Ford Explorer) introduced the masses to a new type of vehicle. It was brawny, muscular, and inefficient but sold by the millions. Today, things have changed but the Grand Cherokee sticks to its roots to please Jeep faithfuls by remaining a true SUV with off-road capabilities. It rides on a rear-wheel drive unibody platform shared with the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class and features a new air suspension system known as Quadra-Lift. Three different 4x4 systems are available along with a new Selec-Terrain system that allows selectable driving settings such as Auto, Rock, Sand/Mud, Sport, and Snow that adjusts traction control, vehicle height, and other settings.

Comparison | 2010 Lotus Evora vs 2010 Porsche Cayman

2010 Lotus Evora vs 2010 Porsche Cayman
Sports Cars

www.autorivals.net

The all-new Lotus Evora marks a change for Lotus. The Evora is the first new vehicle from Lotus since 1995 and is more mainstream compared to Lotus' track-oriented vehicles such as the Elise and Exige. Lotus says the Evora is the most thoroughly tested vehicle it has ever built. It is the first of several vehicles Lotus plans to introduce in the future but is a slight departure from their "simplify, then add lightness" design philosophy. Instead, the Evora has been designed with user-friendliness in mind and comes in over 3,000 pounds configured as a 2+2 layout. A Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 engine is added to power the extra weight rather than an inline-four like in the Evora's feather-light siblings. This isn't your typical Camry engine though as power is pushed to 276 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Evora has some stiff competition mainly from the Porsche Cayman. The Cayman has been credited as one of the best handling cars available and offers performance, luxury, and style priced for the masses.

2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class vs 2011 Aston Martin DB9
Super Cars

www.autorivals.net

The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class walks a thin line between luxury coupe and supercar. On one hand, it's hardly flashy with toned down styling that'll probably go unnoticed by oblivious onlookers. On the other, it's capable of mind-blowing performance. Zero to sixty in a blazing 4.5 seconds and a quarter-mile of under 13 are what you get with a phenomenal 510 horsepower, 5.5-liter V12 engine. And that's not even an AMG engine. In terms of performance, it only lacks the handling and top speed capabilities of competitors but represents the epitome of Mercedes-Benz luxury with equipment from Mercedes' flagship sedan, the S-Class.

Mercedes-Benz Press Release

The epitome of luxury coupes
With stylish, eye-catching design, exclusive appointments and cutting-edge technology, the extensively updated 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class underscores its flagship position in the world of refined automobiles. Powered by a new 429-hp V8 biturbo engine which achieves a 10-15% improvement in fuel economy and 23% improvement in CO2 emissions, the CL550 4MATIC opens a new dimension of efficiency in the luxury coupe segment. This significant reduction is achieved thanks to the newly-developed BlueDIRECT technology with third-generation spray-guided direct injection, energy-efficient control of alternator, fuel pump, air-conditioning compressor and power-assisted steering system. It also features the use of low rolling resistance tires and, on the CL600, the energy-optimized Active Body Control system. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz developers equipped the CL-Class with state-of-the-art multimedia technology, thus helping this model retain its position as the epitome of quality in its class. The 2011MY CL-Class will make its U.S. debut in Autumn of 2010.
